Passengers services

The city of Rio de Janeiro concedes the benefit of free transportation for people over 65, those with special needs and chronic illnesses and students from the public school system. If you fit into any of these categories, you can claim this benefit.

How to get the free travel card

Head to the Espaço Gratuidade area located on Platform 13 of Central do Brasil Terminal, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, taking with you the following documents:

Over 65s:
Official identity card with photo with proof of current residence (no more than three months old).

Students from the public school system:
For under 18s: Birth certificate, school declaration* with at least 30 days left to expire and proof of current residence (no more than three months old).
For over 18s: Official identity card with photo, school declaration* with at least 30 days left to expire and proof of current residence (no more than three months old).
For over 21s: Official identity card with photo, school declaration* with at least 30 days left to expire and proof of current residence (no more than three months old). In this case, the proof of residence should be in the name of the applicant.
*The school unit should have sent on the list of students in advance.

People with special needs:
Official identity card with photo or birth certificate, ‘Vale Social’  (issued by SETRANS – State Secretary of Transport) and current residence (no more than three months old).

How to use the SuperVia Free Pass

Over 65s:
Present your Free Travel Benefit Card issued by SuperVia or an original document with photo at the boarding station.

Students from the public school system:
Students must be wearing the correct uniform and present their Free Travel Benefit Card issued by SuperVia at the boarding station. Access is only permitted at the stations printed on the card (in accordance with the location of the residence and the school.) and during the study hours on school days.

People with special needs:
Present the Free Travel Benefit Card issued by SuperVia or the ‘Vale Social’  (issued by SETRANS – State Secretary of Transport) at the boarding station.
Observation: Anyone accompanying the person with special needs (who needs help moving around) will also have the right to the Free Travel Benefit Card ( so long as this is mentioned on the Vale Social from SETRANS or on the free pass itself) or when the special needs person is under 18.

Free Pass:
On presentation of the Free Travel Benefit Card issued by SuperVia or the original document with photo at the ticket office at the boarding station, the ticket collector will supply the passenger with the Cartão Gratuidade (Free Pass), that should be used within 10 minutes.
