  • History

Line: Saracuruna, Guapimirim e Vila Inhomirim

The owner of Rosário Farm , Francisco Vieira Neto, in agreement with the Leopoldina Railway, allowed the tracks to continue towards Bongaba in exchange for the construction of a tavern at the train stop that would be built on the farm.

In the 1940s the station changed its name to Saracuruna, which is the name of the river that originates in Duque de Caxias and, after joining the Inhomirim river, receives the name of Rio Estrela until it flows into Guanabara Bay. Saracuruna is a bird, a species of Slaty-breasted wood rail (Saracura do Brejo), found in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.

The Saracuruna station is the starting point for the Vila Inhomirim and Guapimirim lines, which operate using diesel powered engines.
